I have never been one to voluntarily step in front of a camera. That’s probably why I am a photographer and not the other way around. I generally don’t like to draw attention to myself, and prefer to be the viewer rather than the entertainment. I dress fairly conservatively, and when I wear makeup, its nothing too crazy. I am shy. I always have been since I was a little kid. Being put into new situations with people I don’t know, frankly, causes so much anxiety that my stomach starts turning. But, all that being said, I have an other side of myself. She isn’t shy, she wears bright crazy makeup, and loves being the center of attention. You can say that she is my Alter Ego. My total opposite.

This has been and idea that I has been floating around in my head for a while. This Self Portrait is part one of a new portrait series that I am exploring. I figured who better to start this off with than myself. Everybody has an Alter Ego, not just Superman. I am also looking for more people that would like to participate, women and men. If your alter ego is a repressed fashion model, a super hero, a villain, a rock-star, or anything else, all are welcome. It’s an amazing way to see yourself in a new way, and to explore the side of you that rarely is seen. Liz & Trevor at Great Falls

It was an usually warm day this past Sunday when I met Liz and Trevor for their engagement session at Great Falls. With the temperature pushing close to 90, it felt more like a day in July than it did in April. Along with Liz and Trevor came their dog Sprocket and their two bikes. Even though Sprocket was more interested in taking a dip in the water (who can blame him) than taking pictures he was a good sport and cooperated. He even ran alongside Trevor while he was biking. Liz even learned to rock climb in heals, which I’m sure is something she didn’t think she would ever get a chance to do. Even though the day was hot and at times was accompanied by too many gnats, we still managed to have a good time and take some great images. Here are some highlights from the day.

A Jewish Wedding in Gaithersburg

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to shoot a Jewish wedding for the very first time. I was told the experience was going to be much like a Greek wedding, and since I’m Greek and know how lively a Greek wedding could be I knew I was in for a fun time. The wedding took place at the Hilton in Gaithersburg, and the day was filled with tradition, lively dancing, much joy and celebration.

The Borjas Family

This past Saturday we meet up with the Borjas family to do a family portrait session at their home. A couple months ago their family grew to not only include their almost two year old son Peter, but also a beautiful baby girl named Gianna. Although Gianna was asleep during the shoot, Peter more than made up for it with his high energy, and funny faces. I have to warn Lisa and Gio though, they may have a budding photographer on their hands with Peter. He enjoyed being behind the camera much better than being in front of it.

Val Muller and the Corgi Capers

Last weekend I had the opportunity to work with a good friend of mine that I’ve know since elementary school. Her name is Val Muller and she is an up and coming author with her first book on the way called the Corgi Capers. When she asked me if I could take a portrait of her for the back of her book, I was more than happy to help her with her new accomplishment. Her new book is a middle-grade mystery novel inspired by the two corgis that she owns Leia and Yoda. In the novel, fifth-grader Adam Hollinger works with his two Pembroke Welsh Corgis to discover who is behind a series of local burglaries. The book alternates with chapters written in the perspective of Adam and of the two corgis that help him solve the mystery of the serial burglar without getting caught by the burglar himself. The book is being published by Dancing with Bear Publishing and will be available for purchase in January 2012 through Amazon and www.dwbchildrensline.com . Maternity Session for Baby Santi

A couple weeks ago we got together with Jorge and Alejandra and shoot their Family/Maternity Session. With only 2 weeks until her due date Alejandra was amazing to work with. A lot of people that are not even pregnant don’t have the stamina that she had that day. After about 3 and a half hours of shooting we ended up with some great pictures. We managed to sneak in the session just in time because this past Saturday Jorge and Alejandra welcomed baby Santiago into the world. Congratulations to them on their healthy new baby boy!

Bed, Breakfast & Caverns

For René’s birthday this year I decided to do something special for him. After weeks of planning and scheming I surprised him with a weekend away to Luray, VA. It was a nice chance for us to get away for a couple of days and relax, and visit the caverns that are in Luray. We stayed at a bed and breakfast called South Court Inn, and the place was great, especially the home made breakfast every morning. Needless to say I was ready to move in. We brought a long our cameras, because no trip would be complete without pictures. Below are a few from the Caverns and South Court Inn.
